I went there today for the first time and was not very impressed by the way I was treated by staff. I asked for a cream tea thinking that this is common vocabulary, and was told to go to the end where drinks were served. I then asked for a scone and was refused service as drinks were served at the end. I waited in the queue until I got to the end and asked for a cream tea, i.e. a scone with tea. I was told that I could only get the drink there, not the food, by which time I was getting angry and said that I had already asked for that and not received it. The first girl then brought me the scone, but the man at the drinks counter took it back off me and shouted at me that it was not for me. If I go into a cafe I expect to be served and not to be shouted at. I think the attitude of the staff there is vile, and whatever happened to customer service. If you want a cup of tea in Aberystwyth, go somewhere else, not to the Penguin Cafe. I really cannot recommend that place and will certainly never go there again.

I've amended my view of this place. I go here regularly and doesn't seem to have smoke problems. there is a pull down unit in the ladies loos which is adequate. Always get a good cup of coffee here and they will make up rolls for little ones to suit. Very friendly staff. it can get very busy in here though so get in early to get a table.

Although the cafe appears nice when you walk in it was extremely smokey when we went in so walked straight out again which is a shame. Not sure if they have upgraded changing facilities since they have done out the cafe.
