Boots closed its changing/feeding room in about Feb 06 - its now a consultation room for some other service - and when i asked a member of staff they said they would not be re-siting it in the store - that has to say something about their child unfriendly approach!!

Although I agree with most of the comments by the previous poster, I have to add that I have been using the Boots room for over 9 years and nothing has changed in that time - it still stinks and the smell can sometimes turn my stomach. I used to go there to breastfeed my youngest daughter (now 2) but the smell was so off putting that I would rather sit in a public restaurant than sit in Boots.

Boots is one of only two places I know of where you can change a nappy in Bedford town centre. As a result buggies are often queuing up outside the tiny Mother & Baby room with hungry/dirty babies wailing from within!
However, thank heavens that Boots provides a nappy changing and feeding facility because all Bedford mums & dads would be stuck without it. The only other place is at the very top of Debenhams, and whilst it's great that Debenhams also offer the facility it's far more effort to trek to the top floor than it is to nip to Boots, queue or no queue.
Pleased to say that it is usually very tidy. The nappy changing "shelf" has guards built in so that only the most determined (and unattended) babies could possibly clamber over it. They have two changing mats, a wash basin, hand towels and a dispensing machine with individual nappies should you have been caught short without a fully equipped nappy bag. Also there are chairs (in children's size) if you need to sit an older sibling down whilst dealing with your smaller child's nappy, which are more likely to be used by mums who breastfeed (there's a curtain you can pull across for a little discretion if you need it). They also have a bottle warmer and a note on the door asking dads to get a member of staff to check before going in that any breastfeeding mums would be OK with a bloke in the room.
On a cynical note this has worked very well for Boots as I have certainly spent a fortune in there as a result of going through to get my baby's nappy changed - but that's more because there isn't anywhere else to go. It is very busy but clean and functional as long as you don't mind waiting during busy periods.
