We as a family have visited Exeter on many occasions and we were informed of Dinky's by the Tourist board. As a family we found the experience fantastic. Loaded with shopping bags and having tired feet, we relaxed whilst our two year old enjoyed the play area and the other children. The tea was great and the large mugs were great value. I appreciate the play area isn't the largest, but it is after all a play cafe, NOT a wacky warehouse!!!!
We stayed for about an hr and a half and left really relaxed. The staff seemed friendly and polite and it was nice to be served our teas at the table.
Mr Dinky, you're not for sale are you?

i took my son to dinkys in exeter, my sister took her daughter. we were only there 5mins when a child hit my niece in the face and the parent didnt even bat an eyelid! dinkys is too small and the children get bored easily and its filthy. the staff are not child friendly and are more iterested in convasations with each other than serving or clearing up mess off the floor, which i slipped on when i was 7 months pregnant, not even a wetfloor sign on display! i think this childs play area is just somewhere for parents who cant be bothered and just let their childrn run wild and be spitefull! i went once and never went back.

Dinkys does great food, small snacks like toast and biscuits/cakes, as well as lunches(for adults and kids) and good coffee. It is perfect to relax whist the kids have fun and unwind. Obviously not on a large scale like some places, not a day out, but great for a couple of hours pit stop during the day. As for the people who mention the staff, they have always been helpful and friendly ,but they are not there to childmind! That's still the job of the parent/carer! Keep it up Dinkys.

Would just like to say how fantastic I think Dinkys is. Have a 2yr old boy who absoloutely loves it in there which is fab cos it makes a visit to the shops so much easier now that I can bribe him with a trip to dinkys afterwards!
I think the £2.50 charge is very reasonable and it makes a pleasant change to be able to relax whilst Jordan has a play, unlike barefeet the other day which was awful, just hate those big warehouse places, cant relax as just too many kids running riot which makes is anything but relaxing! Great coffee at Dinkys too! Sally Ede

As a matter of interest & being the owner of Dinkys I feel that I need to comment in response to the last 2 posts from "steve & Chantelle".....
I have made several attempts to contact the owners of childfriendly.net to get these removed, only to have had no replies by either email or phone. I am 99.9% certain that these 2 posts are the imagination of a former employee who happened to be relieved of their duties the day prior to these 2 posts. It is no coincidence that both posts - 1 minute apart from each other, appeared on this site intending to damage my business and put off any potential/existing customers that may read this site.
I can categorically say that there is no way that I, my manageress or any of my staff would behave in such a way, If any such incident was reported we would deal with it immediately & appropriately. We have had instances where there have been "accidents" in the ball pits, if this happens we shut this ball pit straight away & have the little ones use the other ball pit provided whilst we clean up.
It is also worth mentioning that we pride ourselves on how we interact with the little ones. There is absoloutely no way that I or any of my staff would be off hand with anybody, let alone the children.
We recently conducted a survey to gain feedback from our customers to help us improve their experience at Dinkys and asked them to score us on a variety of different topics.
We were thrilled with the results and especially with the scores & comments made relating to the staff and their friendliness.
By conducting this survey we are showing to all that we are prepared to listen and that any constructive criticism will be listened to and if appropriate, acted on. Ultimately we are trying to provide a facility for parents to come and enjoy good food and meet friends after/before shopping whilst the little ones play and interact with other and we hope you enjoy it for what it is - a play cafe!
If you haven't visited us then please give us a try and make up your own mind!

I took my 2children into dinkys so i could relax whilst my children had a little play . . At first they seemed too be having fun .. but then my son came and told me that the lady behind the counter told him too move out her way .. and also that he got slaped by anoyher child in the soft play area . . i do like dinkys but mayb the staff could do a little bit more then stand around on there phones . and watch the children inside the ball pits . .

i took my son to dinkys, although a child friendly. place, children get bored easy. i also witnessed 1 child who pee'd into the ball pool, when the manageress was informed, no one attempted to clean up the mess, staff seemed to be lazy and spent more time of their phones than interested in their work.

Vikki - Dinkys try to provide an environment where Mums like yourself can come for lunch, coffee, or to meet freinds after shopping.....a place where children are not only welcome but a venue that also provides play facilities; therefore enabling the mums to have some relative peace whilst they catch up with freinds or take half hours break from the shops.
Dinkys has never set out to compete with the "wacky warehouse" grand, large scale warehouse type soft play centre, Dinkys is in effect a coffee shop/cafe - a Starbucks/Costa coffee type venture that is child freindly.
The equipment provided is more than adequate for the age range (up to 5 yrs)- also very expensive.
Dinkys offers good food, great coffee, freindly staff, baby changing facilities, baby walkers, modern baby chairs, WI-FI, & birthday/christening packages. You don't get frowned at if the kids are noisy or make a mess, nor if you were breast feeding unlike other cafes.
You say that it can't be that difficult - if you have a spare £100,000 and some better ideas then why don't you have ago - it can't be that difficult.. in the meantime perhaps you should take your little ones to costa coffee and see how long it takes for them to get bored in there!

I think this is possibly the worst attempt at soft play I have ever been too. 2 areas exactly the same so the kids get bored within 5 minutes and lots of "mums what lunch" sat around ignoring their kids. Maybe it was just the day I went but I think there are a lot of other places which put much more effort and thought into the children's needs and not the parents standards of coffee - it would be nice to achieve both and it can't be that difficult!! The coffee was very nice by the way.

Dinkys is fantastic, they make you feel welcome and what a breath of fresh air - a place where your children can play whilst the adults can enjoy great coffee (it's beautiful!) and great food. It is actually a pleasure to go shopping now, the children are well behaved because they know if they are they will be treated to a visit to Dinkys...They now have specific opening times 10 til 5 mon - sat with last admission 4 o clock. They have an offer on at the moment of 100 memberships available for £50 for a year giving unlimited admission.....bargain! if you have more than 1 child like I do you can add siblings for an extra £20 per child! Good luck to the dinkys team they have certainly made my life easier.

When i heard dinkys was opening i thought this us just what exeter needs, but now as time goes on i dont think they are making an effort, they close far to early, and never on a certain time just when they feel like it, i shop around town then promise the kids a play at dinkys i get there at 3.15 the lady turns us away saying"were closing its been empty all day" well if word gets around that they do this people just wont bother going there, also there charge of £2.50 is to steep what about if you have 3 children, charly chalks use to be full all the time with only a 50p charge, i think dinkys have done it up wonderfull but there making the customer pay for it, one last thing the staff always look like they dont want to be there,
